Jesmeen Kaur

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT 163127)

My name is Jesmeen Kaur, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT 163127) with a strong foundation in clinical psychology and a genuine passion for supporting individuals on their journey toward healing and growth. As an AMFT, I provide services under the clinical supervision of Nahomie Guillaume, LMFT (48571), and Ashley Oakes, LCSW (130871).

My education and training include a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Sacramento, completed in 2023, a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University, completed in 2026, a Substance Use Disorder Counselor Certification earned in May 2024, and parenting model training called Seeking Safety, completed in 2025. Seeking Safety is an evidence-based, present-focused counseling model designed to help clients address co-occurring trauma, including PTSD, and substance-use concerns by building safety, coping skills, and stabilization. I also have two years of experience working with clients facing co-occurring mental health and substance-use concerns in a recovery program, along with practicum experience at a residential treatment center. These experiences have given me real-world clinical exposure to trauma, family systems, recovery, coping patterns, parenting challenges, and the importance of compassionate, culturally responsive care.

I primarily work with adults 18 and over, and I also work with children and youth ages 6 and up on a limited basis. I provide individual, couples, and family therapy for clients navigating trauma/PTSD, domestic violence, relationship issues, family conflict, parenting concerns, career concerns, intergenerational patterns, cultural identity, relational stress, and self-understanding. I have particular experience supporting families where substance use has affected children, caregivers, family relationships, and the overall sense of safety, as well as adults who grew up in homes where substance use, trauma, abuse, or instability shaped the family system.

I approach each client with curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to creating a safe and nonjudgmental space. My work is grounded in a psychodynamic framework, and I also draw from attachment - based therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT), culturally responsive therapy, mindfulness - based therapy, motivational interviewing, person - centered therapy, trauma - focused therapy, parenting - informed support, and Seeking Safety when helpful for clients and families. When working with parents, I use Seeking Safety tools to support safety in the home, communication, coping skills, and healthier family patterns, especially when trauma, substance use, or relational instability has affected the family.I believe lasting change often comes from exploring how our past experiences, unconscious patterns, family roles, and early relationships shape who we are today.By helping clients develop self- awareness and insight into their past, I support them in building a more fulfilling and authentic life.

Although I am early in my career as an AMFT, I bring a broad range of clinical experience, meaningful life experience, and a warm, approachable style to my work. I understand that healing is not only about symptoms, but also about the environments people come from, including financial stress, immigration, cultural adjustment, family instability, trauma, and the ways people learn to survive. I approach these experiences with humility, respect, and care, especially for clients who have felt unseen, judged, or misunderstood in other settings. I also understand how generational pain, parent-child conflict, relational patterns, and the balance between cultural values and daily life in the United States can shape a person’s identity, relationships, and sense of belonging. I provide services in English and Punjabi, and I offer moderate conversational ability in Hindi and Urdu as well, allowing me to connect meaningfully with clients from diverse backgrounds.

If you are looking for a therapist who will meet you with warmth, respect, and care, I would be honored to support you as you begin or continue your healing journey.
